What is everyone picking up? A six-speed manual or eight-speed auto?

I've got the 6 spd auto in my 3.6L ATS Performance, I would love to have that 8 spd, that would be my choice

Can't imagine it wouldn't. Although it's been said the new 8 speed is best when left to shift itself.

I'd go with the auto and paddle it for fun. Still have kids so manual isn't always the best option.

Manual 100%. Driving a performance car like this with an auto is like kissing your sister.

I have a m6 vagon it's the only way to go in a sports car. The only place the auto is better is at a drag strip. And even then I will take being 1/2s slower to know I did the work my self. Any one can go fast in a auto. It takes a driver to go fast in a manual.

I am a diehard manual trans guy but I'm extremely disappointed the ATS-V did not come with the 7 speed manual.

The more torque the less gears needed in a manual if the spacing is spot on and I would beleive that the Caddy boys have that pretty well sorted out. As to driving fast with an automatic Jim Hall ran his Chaparral race car with an auto in the late 60's /early 70's, and desert racers are more and more going to auto's. If you live in a metro area and are in stop and go traffic an auto looks pretty damn good. I am driving a CTS V Wagon in San Diego and Las Vegas...6 spd manual. Looking forward to an automatic !

Thinking of getting the ATS-V for my wife. Therefore an auto. I have a 6 MT in my Vagon.

I've always been a manual person, but if I go this route, I may opt for the auto this time. Will depend on the test drive and how it truly reacts, am pretty optimistic about the outcome.
