What is everyone picking up? A six-speed manual or eight-speed auto?

It is the same auto as the C7, (8L90E) and the TR-6060 is an awesome transmission and it's extremely durable. I've beaten the hell out of mine on the track (600whp CTS-V) and I've never once had an issue with it. The car now has 46,000 miles on it and it still going strong. That being said, I think it's the best manual trans out there at the moment and it certainly has a proven history to say the least.

The A8 is a great transmission in this car and it certainly makes it easier to be consistent at the track. Having driven the ATS-V a lot and with both transmissions, I would choose the TR-6060 as the car is way more fun to drive with a manual IMO. The engine revs freely, the clutch is light, (very easy to live with in traffic) and it makes the car more entertaining/engaging to drive than the auto does. Having launch control also helps maintain consistency at the 1/4 mile track and the rev matching makes it much easier to drive on a road course track for those who are unable to heel-toe downshift. Three pedals for life!!

I have noticed on the "anther ATS-V forum" that some cars have problems with manual transmission.
Notchy shifts into 1st, 2nd, 3rd when the car has been sitting a while is common.

I would go with 8sp auto because of these manual transmissions problems.
There is no issue with the TR-6060 in the ATS-V or the past generation CTS-V. I also haven't heard or experienced those complaints on our stock units or my car which sometimes sits for several weeks. Can you please provide a link to where you got this information?
I don't think it is right for me to provide link to competing forum on here.
You will just have to search on Google for it.
Sorry.
I actually did a search for "ATS-V manual transmission problems" and nothing came up. It's completely normal for people to post links to other forums so please provide the link so that people can see what you're talking about. It does no good to claim that people are having issues with something and not provide any proof when asked for it.

The manual transmission in my car is a little notchy when I first start it on a cold morning. This goes away in about 5 minutes as the transmission oil warms up. I noticed this on every car I have owned though, it isn't exclusive the the ats-v. This might be what novice manual drivers are referring to...
I will only post the "other" forums link when I get the admin OK.
Jay there is a problem inherent to the T-56 and T-6060's. When cold they are very notchy. Especially 1st - 2nd gear changes. It goes away fairly quickly when operating temps come up but when cold they're a bit annoying. Same with both of the Z06's and SS Camaro I owned. The Camaro and first Z06 I had came with the T-56. My current '09 Z06 has the T-6060 same as my ATS-V. Figured it was just nature of the beast till it gets up to temp.
That's interesting as I have never felt like the T-6060 in my CTS-V is notchy even when cold. I know that other manual transmissions feel that way when they are cold but I've never noticed it being an issue in mine. Maybe the dual mass flywheel and twin disc clutch on the MG9 version dampens the notchiness.

While both the ATS-V and your '09 Z06 have a T-6060 in them, they are not the same transmissions internally. Your '09 Z has the MM6 version which is rated to 500lb-ft and the ATS-V's MG9 version is rated to 551lb-ft. The ATS-V's T-6060 has the same dual mass flywheel and twin disc clutch as the '09-'15 CTS-V whereas the C6 Z06 had neither.

I fully understand the differences but with my experience they still share the same characteristics. Even with a twin disc (Katech and now McCleod) I've installed in my Z06 the cold, notchy manual is still an issue.
There is more owners complaints about MT on the 'other ' forum.

"I like the car overall, I am just not in loved. I have the 6MT and it has an annoying mechanical buzz that goes away as soon as the clutch is engaged a little. Then sometimes there is a clunking sound when going into gear, specially 1st or 2nd. If I am not listening to the radio I begin to focus on these noises. Just the whole experience does not seem that polished."
I don't have any of those problems at all. As a matter of fact after doing the TSB yesterday (6MT trans fluid flush to remove any possible contaminates that may cause foaming and seep out of vent cap) I noticed once it was up to operating temp the transmissions shifted like butter. By far the smoothest manual I can remember driving. Still a bit notchy when cold though. With that said you do here a bit of noise (prob throw out bearing/twin disc set up) when at a complete stop and the clutch totally disengaged. No 'buzzing' or clunking sound. When you engage the clutch those sounds go away. Sounds like an issue he needs to see the dealership about.
Yep, the auto is faster than the manual so that was my choice. My wife can drive it if she has too and they don't have to call me to move the car at the carwash when no one there can drive a stick shift. The auto shifting is fine for me and the difference in track mode vs normal? I love it's effect on the transmission - well, the transmission, the power, the handling and the sound improvement. :) Needs to default to track.
like me, with time, auto transmissions have learned a lot over time. The majority of performance cars are auto only as they do outperform MT. IMO, if a car needs to be purchased in MT form is bc they perform better than AT. Not the case here w the V.
6sp manual here. Not even close to being interested in the 8sp auto. Seems like a very solid transmission but given the choice, I'll go w/the 3 pedal setup every single time.
Had the six speed auto in my '09 CTS-V. Got to go with the 8 speed auto.
