just purchased a new 2016 ATS-v but for some reason it didn't have car play. Nobody at Cadillac or the dealership can explain even though on all literature from GM/Cadillac says that at it is equipped. anybody else have this issue or have an explanation?

I have the same issue. Apparently our Vs rolled off the manufacturing floor before they put in the CarPlay. According to my dealership, there's no software upgrade for it.

I'm pretty pissed.
That's not exactly true...I took mine the dealership today and told them I would need a new vehicle if they couldn't equip it with car play (I bought mine last week)...its in the shop getting whatever download and parts it needs to equip it! It's not an option its factory therefore they have to make good on it! All literature says its standard...good luck
That's good news. Who's your dealer? Maybe I can reference them when I take mine in.
Well that is a burner! Any news from the dealer on this?
The first 600 or so ATS-Vs were not equipped with Apple Car Play or the upgraded CUE system. We started getting stock units equipped with Apple Car Play a little over a month ago so the ones now rolling off the assembly line will be equipped accordingly.

From what I've been told, they can add Car Play but the upgraded CUE system will not be an upgrade due to it having a faster processor. That being said, if anyone finds out any information that's different, please share.

Jay how do we know if we are one of the early 600? I don't see the Apple Car Play icon on the screen so does that automatically mean it's not equipped or has the upgraded CUE?
If you go to your CUE's home screen and don't see "projection" as one of the chooseable applications, then yours is one of the first 600 made without CarPlay or the upgraded CUE processor.

I will check later today. I don't remember seeing this though. If it is not equipped with the CarPlay/upgraded CUE processor are we able to have that installed at the dealer?
I had one of the ATS-V's without car play...the dealer installed it but if I dont have the upgraded CUE (faster processor) then its a deal breaker and they will need to get me one with it
How do you know what version of CUE you have?
Ok, so I've got some great unofficial news. I followed up on the updates and learned that (according to my source) we will have the Apple Car Play update sometime next month and they will be able to update the existing CUE system with the newest version which includes the faster processor. Obviously this is great news and I will update this thread once I have the official word that we can begin to install it.

If you purchased one of the ATS-Vs that does not already have Apple Car Play, you should contact your dealer towards the middle of January to see if they are ready to complete the update. As I'm sure most of you are aware, vehicle updates can often times get pushed back to make sure you check into it before taking your car in for that specific update.

Stay speedy,
Jay

I have had the update done and now have CarPlay and the updated system. I had purchased the vehicle recently and basically said that I would not accept the vehicle without the promised software and hardware. It took 8 days for them to write the upgrade and complete but it is installeed and works according. The dealership was capital Cadillac in Atlanta.

Good to know that it is already being released in some instances and I'm glad that they were able to get you taken care of!
Great news Jay! Thanks for the update.

Jay, do you know when Android Auto will be available? My ATS-V came with Apple Car Play (October build) but I'm using an Android platform phone.
I picked up my car from the dealer on 1-9-16 and the dealer said that the car has Apple Play for Apple not Android. The car was built to order so it came directly from the factory. I'll check to see if it shows Projection on the home screen.
